One Rank One Pension for armed forces approved in budget

Great news for ex servicemen. Finance Minister in his interim budget granted Rs 500 Crores for implementation of OROP for the ex servicemen. It will be effected prospectively from 01.04.2014.
Chidambaram says the government has accepted the one rank one pension scheme for the defence forces. "Rs 500 crore will be transferred in 2014-15 for implementing the 'one rank one pay' decision,"

  1. Vide Government of India Ministry of Defence letter Nos.1 (11)/2012-D (Pen/Policy) dated 17 Jan 2013.
The enhanced pension was sanctioned and was to be paid wef 24 Sep 2012. This was applicable to officers othan Lt Generals and equivalent, who had already been sanctioned revised pension wef 01 Jan 2006.
The anomaly was that officers other than Lt Gens were due to get arrears wef 01 Jan 2006.

Then issue as regards OROP is different and bears no relationship with the arrears of pension case.
