OROP under consideration, says MoS

New Delhi, August 1

The ‘one-rank one-pension’ (OROP) formula for retired soldiers is under consideration, Minister of State for Defence Rao Inderjit Singh informed the Lok Sabha today.

In a written reply to Maj Gen BC Khanduri (Retd.) in the Lok Sabha, Rao assured that the principle of ‘one-rank one-pension’ for the armed forces had been accepted by the government.

He said the modalities for implementation were discussed with various stakeholders. “It will be implemented once the modalities are approved by the government,” he said.

On July 30, the Indian Ex-Servicemen Movement had wrote a letter to the Defence Minister and also chiefs of the three services saying the delay in implementing the OROP was a cause concern.

A copy of the letter was also sent to newly appointed BJP president Amit Shah.

One Rank One Pension
The principle of One Rank One Pension for the Armed Forces has been accepted by the Government. The modalities for implementation were discussed with various stakeholders and are presently under consideration of the Government. It will be implemented once the modalities are approved by the Government.

There is a Pension Grievances Cell in the Department of Ex-servicemen Welfare to attend to grievances of the Ex-servicemen (ESM). Pension grievances received manually are being processed with the concerned offices. In addition, an online grievance redressal mechanism under the Centralised Public Grievances Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS), developed by Department of Administrative Reforms, is also in operation through which the grievances received from ESM are being processed and replied electronically. Further, there are Veteran Cells / Grievance Cells in Service Hqrs, Office of Controller General of Defence Accounts and Office of Principal Controller of Defence Accounts (Pension), Allahabad respectively. Defence Pension Adalats are also being organised at six locations every year to settle the grievances of ESM pensioners on the spot.

This information was given by Minister of State for Defence Rao Inderjit Singh in a written reply to Maj. General (Retd.) BC Khanduri in Lok Sabha today.

  5. I want to know why all these modalities are coming into the way of OROP only for the last so many years and repetition of considering & considering and considering word appearing in every letter of Govt. with adamant attitude. And why all these things are not coming on way when these Bureaucrats and the politicians want to have any benefit for themselves. When ever Bureaucrats and the politicians want to have any financial benefits or any other things in their favour they will get all those without any trouble and opposition. There won't be any modalities. So there won't be any need for any consideration. Need to look, now lately 75% hike in pension for all politicians has been announced. You all will see it will be implemented in a very short period of time because it won't have any modalities. So thereby no considerations will be required. Hats off to all these big big politicians and all Bureaucrats especially to our honourable Prime Minister who, with his 56 inches broad chest announced OROP in full and at par. Now we don't hear any thing from our respectable Prime Minister in regard OROP. In turn we all feel shame. Thanks to our respectable Prime Minister.
