NEW DELHI: Over Rs.3,186 crore has been paid to more than 17 lakh military veterans on account of One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme and 100 per cent compliance is expected by the month-end, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar today said.
"17,29,358 pensioners have benefited from OROP to the tune of Rs.3,186 crore. Expect to ensure cent per cent compliance by May end," Mr Parrikar tweeted.
A section of veterans, who had been protesting for "complete" implementation of OROP, had recently called off their nearly a year-long protest at Jantar Mantar. They have now decided to take the legal route to press their demand.
Mr Parrikar had in September last year announced implementation of the OROP for ex-servicemen but the veterans have been continuing with their protest demanding "complete" implementation of the scheme.

A very excellent economist to reduce orop expenditure from 10000 Cr to 3000 Cr. Who done this excellent work may be done Finance Minister. This 7000 Cr amount is saved from the pension of PBOR.

ReplyDeleteConceeding legitimate right of soldiers after 40 long years of struggle ,t hat too partly is not a sort of benefit ! Well ,credits do go to present netas but the fact is Govt ( irrespective of party ),have dragged it too long until rasing agitations ,after having promised and gained in the formation of Govt with majority, due to invocation of right of voting strength in democracy ; and overwhelming public opinion
Thus ,this aspect with remaining unresolved issues should be approached in right prospective of veterans legitimate haq.
