WHY IT IS INDIAN PARLIAMENT/CONSTITUTION/ARMED FORCES ETC? ...AND WHY NOT -BHARATHEEYA PARLIAMENT/CONSTITUTION/ARMED FORCES??

A college boy in my neighbourhood wished me happy Independence day and went on to ask me a question which frankly I had no answer. later I did google but did not find an apt answer.

His question was why is the word India not in the National Anthem, Vande Mataram, Patriotic songs etc There is Bharat and Hindustan but no mention of the word India.

My answer to him was over simplistic and later as i thought about it wrong. I told him the Anglo Saxons called the country India as the Indus flows through.

Why is the country's name not Hindustan or Bharat?.

In the rural areas every one says "Hum Hindustani Hai" yet we have the Indian Constitution, Indian Parliament , Indian armed forces etc etc

Could someone explain Bharat/Hindustan/India

Regards

  1. India is the internationally accepted name of our country. After partition Pakistan wanted the British to name post partition India as Hindustan but they did not agree saying that India remained even if some parts separated. We also wanted India to remain as the Indian Ocean. Indian Sub Continent and the Indian Army were internationally known entities and we did not want to lose that recognition by switching over to Hindustan. Accordingly, our constitution describes us as "India that is Bharat"- to satisfy every one in India.

  3. This is the way it is written in English. However, it is Bharat ka samvidhan, Bharat ki sena & Bharat ki sansad or Bhartiye sansad while writing in Hindi. Have your pick. Hindi version is given by me & English version is already known to you.

    2. Mr Anonymous Sir, No, I am not saying that it should be in Hindi only. The Author of the article wanted to know why it is not in hindustani. That's why I said these are referred so & so in Hindi. Pl. read the article, then my comment & castigate me for propogating Hindi. I have spent major portion of my life in south India (Chenai/Bangalore) & I know a little bit of Tamil & Kandry. I respect Tamil, Malyalam, Kendry & Telugu.

  6. If we change the name will quality of life change in our nation? First we must change our attitude towards positive aspects of life which is more difficult than mere changing of names and nomenclatures.
