  7. dear sir,

despite the provisions of the Indian Toll (Army and Air Force)
Act, 1901 serving soldiers are being harassed at toll barriers on national highways and being denied toll exemption on the plea of not being 'on duty'.

It is a fact that any soldier at the toll barrier is either proceding on hard earned leave or returning from leave to join his unit/ duty. As such he does'nt have enough time to argue with the goons and thugs of the toll mafia on the issue of payment of toll which by law, is exempt to him. At times, a young soldier is so innocent and ignorant of the law that he is actually not aware of his rights and priveleges. In some isolated cases, the soldier even if aware of the exemption in toll, is too self respecting to argue and these are sentiments that are being exploited by the toll contractors at the toll barriers/ plazas.

This issue needs to be looked into holistically. It is not the money per se, it is the dignity and self respect of the soldier at stake.

Hope concerned authorities (Min of surface transport and highways and/ or nhai) look into this.

    thanks
