In memory of Indian Soldiers in World Wars - Strangers on Gallipoli by Sanjiva Wijesinha

A visit to Gallipoli, where 15,000 Indians fought and 1,400 died. Sadly, there is no memorial here to honour them

I am also attaching a snap taken by me in Dec 2008,
outside the Australian War Memorial for a
private
and his donkey in that battle.

The inscription states:
Private Simpson and his donkey worked day and night
carrying water to frontline and bringing the

wounded back to the Dressing Station.

They were both killed by a shrapnel on 19.5.15.

Pvt Simpson was Mentioned-in-Despatches by

Sir Ian Hamilton , C-in-C of Mediterranean Expeditionary Force
