Parliamentary panel slams govt for non-implementation of OROP in Armed forces

New Delhi | Monday, Apr 27 2015 IST

Taking the government to task on the issue of implementation of OROP scheme for the personnel retiring from the Armed forces, a parliamentary panel today asked the Centre to work out an amicable solution "within stringent timeframe at the earliest".

The Standing Committee on Defence, in its report submitted in the both Houses of Parliament, regretted that even after Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made a commitment and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had provided Rs 1,000 crore in the General Budget, the OROP has not been implemented.

"It is beyond the understanding of the Committee as to what reasons are preventing the government from making necessary decisions and arriving at a solution," the Committee wondered, adding that it was utmost important that requisite modalities were sorted out and an amicable solution brought with regard to OROP within stringent timeframe at the earliest.

The Committee asked the government to apprise it about the progress made in this regard.

  1. What amicable solution is the panel talking about ?? OROP as per the accepted definition and non negotiable terms has been more than once already agreed by the parliament and two govt.It is just too much. DM and FM are no more credible and PM must come clean on his government's disgusting ways as far as services are considered.

  2. What slam after all, the govt whether BJP or CONGRESS HABITUATED for this. When they want for veteran support they will go to any extent in justifying our demandd. When they throne in power they will ensure their promise and justice second to them. Many ESM Organisation are fit to hear what the next story of DM for non implementation of OROP but not fit o ask counter questions. But wonders these organisation go beyond bit more in examination of past INDIAN HISTORY when its veterans in starvation with full of family committement. Good good for somebody the demand of OROP is survival but for somebody RUMMY where the trump card is patience to jawan. In nutshell the higher makes the lower fool and the SUPREME I.e GOVT efficiently covers the both. NICE STORY

  5. If appraised, what action will the Parliament Penal going to take on the Government's non action till date. At best they could have given a date for tabling to the FM and RM the so called "all finalised OROP Bill". From time to time we are all being cheated with the false progress reports that are being given in these columns at every level, this includes the PM, FM, RM and the IESM. One of the great culprit is the IESM which gives hope, but hides when the delay is beyond the expected limits. As promised by ALL CONCERNED will the exServicemen get their due in their May pension cheque? If so, the pension paying Banks/other PDAs must get detailed instructions fixing the respective pensions of all concerned by 05 May 2015. Is it possible?

  10. In this connection there is no need take of approval of parliament, it is not a bill to passed by vote in the parliament. It needs only issue notification from the office of cgda after getting letter from mod not from parliament please see previous history of improvement of pension pbor.
