The principle of One Rank One Pension for the Armed Forces has been accepted by the government, said defence minister Manohar Parrikar in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha on Friday.
The modalities for implementation have been discussed with various stakeholders and are presently under consideration, the financial implication need to be calculated, once the modalities are finalized and approved by the Government, he said.
Possible amendments to the pension policies are being examined with a view to reduce litigation for removing disparities in pension of various ex-servicemen.
Earlier this month, a five member delegation led by Major General Satbir Singh (Retd), Chairman of Indian Ex-servicemen Movement (IESM) met the defence minister Manohar Parrikar to press for the implementation of the OROP.
Defence minister Manohar Parikar had confirmed the delegation that government is committed to implement the OROP after completing the modalities with the finance ministry, and today’s reply reiterates the same stand.
Even the budget did not see any allocation when the OROP is implemented and no mention was made to the effect in the budget. The scheme requires about Rs.8,300 crore and the finance ministry is still finding ways to source the money for the scheme.
With about 30-lakh ex-servicemen in the country, OROP would entails payment of uniform pension to personnel retiring in the same rank with the same length of service irrespective of their date of retirement.
