Continuing their agitation against the government over the delay in implementing the One Rank One Pension scheme, ex-servicemen on Monday began an indefinite relay hunger strike across the country.

A group of 55-60 veterans sat on a relay hunger strike at Jantar Mantar here. On Sunday, thousands of ex-servicemen held a massive protest at the same venue. The protests began after several rounds of official and back-channel talks with the Govt failed to make any headway.

“The hunger strike has begun today (Monday) in various cities. This will go on indefinitely till our dues are cleared,” said Colonel (retd) Anil Kaul, media adviser to the Indian Ex-Servicemen Movement.

The veterans are demanding that the government adhere to the definition of OROP and announce a fixed timeline for its implementation.

Speaking at an event in Jaipur on Sunday, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar had asked ex-servicemen to have “patience” and said the government would deliver on its promises.

Even though Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mr. Parrikar have reiterated their commitment to implementing OROP on several occasions, the final announcement has been continuously delayed. Mr. Parrikar had said the file has been sent to the Finance Ministry for clearance.

  3. It is we (army top brass) which needs to be blamed. If you receive an order for mobilisation from the top echelon, you move imdt with log stock and barrel with out even checking if any accn is available at the new location for tps and offrs to stay. You acted as per your teaching or ethos, what ever it may, but you find the civil hierarchy. they take their sweet time to react. So the lesson learnt is next time in case of urgency, you also take your sweet time to react to the orders of political and bureaucratic bosses. I remember as a Captain in 1994, four officers have stayed in a 180 lb tent in a hillock for six months in the valley with out adequate facilities of water and food. Such was the misery.

  4. Sir, I think Central Govt has forgotten the The Kedarnath Temple, Jammu kashmir , Kachh, Bangladesh trigadi where only defence personnel has taken part to save the people. That time why politicians are not coming forward to save the civilians public, giving one day salary is not enough its required internal feeling for help. That time why Jawan is being called.I think every day so many comments are being pulished politicians are not aware. Politicians ko to aik chullu bhar pani mai dubakar mar jana chahiye.Regards.Ex MWO SN Sharma,Jaipur.

  6. If they equate armed forces with the police force ,I fail to understand why the army Jawan should not serve into the age of sixty. No war has taken place for last forty five years as Defence minister says, why army needs to be young.Govt wants Army to fail like 62 war ,then they recognise their need .Today Army is useless for the g Govt.God give good sense to the Finance Monister.public need to know what will have if 62 war conditions are repeated.the. The losses to the nation will be cheaper then the OROP
