Congrats to EAM @SushmaSwaraj for a firm, effective & fine articulation of a wide range of global issues at #UNGA.
A good hard hitting to the point message by Ms Swaraj. Good show.
ReplyDeleteINDIA’S ‘SUSHPLOSION’ AT UNGA.
ReplyDeleteSushma Swaraj, The External Affairs Minister of India, virtually detonated a diplomatic explosive device at UNGA, on 26 Sept.
Her hard hitting speech was a marked deviation from the line hitherto followed by India at international fora.
The short speech of 20 minutes was not Pak centric alone but touched upon many subjects like Paris convention on ecology, health, working method of UN Peace keeping force, poverty alleviation among other things.
Criticism from some quarters are expected of the limited time devoted for reply to Nawas Sharif. In UNGA, speakers are given only15 to 20 minutes to present their views. Hence she had to present them in proper perceptive.
For the first time India’s presentation became aggressively offensive towards Pakistan. Sushma jee named Nawas Sharif in her point to point rebuttal to his speech and referred to the atrocities committed by Pak army on Balochi citizens. She also told Sharif to forget about the “never come true” dream of Kashmir becoming a part of Pak. Unlike our media one could not see much frenzy in Pak media.
Back home the speech elicited criticism from opposition parties which was expected of them. It probably emanated from the frustration of not being able to do so in the past while they were in power.
Some major decisions are in the anvil which may include revocation of MFN status to Pak and revisiting condition of Indus Water treaty to implement some drastic measures short of abrogation.
All said and done what I am unable to understand is the irony of resuming suspended “Samjhoutha” Train service.
Strange are ways of wise men (or is it vice men?) Somebody please enlighten me.
