Panel on OROP anomalies submits report to Parrikar

The Justice L Narasimha Reddy committee, appointed to look into the anomalies in the implementation of the `one rank, one pension' (OROP) scheme for military veterans, submitted its report to Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday.

The judicial committee held hearings at around 20 cities and towns across the country and received 704 representations from individuals and various ex-servicemen associations before submitting its report.

The Govt had notified the OROP scheme on November 7 last year, holding that the pension arrears for the 18 lakh ex-servicemen and war widows from July 2014 to December 2015 would be Rs 10,925 crore. The annual recurring financial implication, in turn, will be Rs 7,489 crore.

But as earlier reported, a section of military veterans have continued with their stir on the ground that the “diluted“ OROP announced by the Govt has left seven main anomalies unresolved.

  1. The OMJC report must be made public by the government at the earliest for effective understanding and implementation. Political will is the need of the day and the bureaucratic influence must be kept at bay while implementation.

    1. That is what had been happening in the last 60+ years. But that disciplined attitude is attributed as weakness. Added to that our senior officers mistake social status as dignity and honor. In the process our performances were taken for granted. The present day soldier is different, he wants his respectable dues.
