"When we talk about our soldiers, it is mostly about their uniform, their valour but we must also see them as an example of humanity," added Modi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the newly-built war memorial — Shaurya Samarak — at Lal Pared ground, in Bhopal during his three-hour visit on Friday, ahead of the BRICS meet in Goa. Addressing ex-servicemen in Bhopal, PM Modi paid his tributes to brave soldiers on this historic day. “It is my privilege that I have the opportunity to pay my tributes to our brave soldiers here on this historic day,” he said.
“When we talk about our soldiers, it is mostly about their uniform, their valour but we must also see them as an example of humanity,” added Modi.
Giving credit to the armed forces and the Defence Minister, PM Modi reiterated how they don’t speak, but act. “When I said our army does not believe in speaking, critics would say Modi is sleeping, is doing nothing. Like our Army doesn’t say but displays its valour, similarly our Defence Minister also doesn’t speak.” He called on people to respect and applaud the security forces whenever they see them. “In some countries, whenever people see jawans at airports or railway stations, they stand up and applause, we should also adopt this,” he added.
Recalling the help extended by the Indian Army during Kashmir floods, Modi said, “During floods in Srinagar, army men extended their help for the rescue and relief operation in the area. It is the call of humanity that inspires our armed forces when they’re helping people during natural disasters. Nothing else matters. When we think of armed forces, we remember their bravery and also their role during a natural disaster,” he said.
Highlighting the role of the Indian Army in rescue and relief operations in Yemen, the prime minister told the gathering to recall with pride the role of Army in rescue work. “While rescuing Indians in Yemen, Indian army also rescued a few Pakistanis, this is the example of humanity of our Indian army. We are also one of the biggest contributors to the UN peacekeeping forces,” said Modi.
The prime minister also hit out at the previous UPA government with regard to One Rank One Pension, when he said, “Previous governments had made empty promises on OROP but when we came to power we fulfilled our promise and implemented it.”
